Endorsement Letters:

Gary Libey endorsement letter:

"I have publicly endorsed Roger Sandberg as the next Whitman County Superior Court Judge. People have asked me why I endorse him. The answer is very obvious, it is because Roger is the most qualified candidate for this very important judicial position.

"I know from being the Whitman County Superior Judge for the last 8 years that Roger has the common sense, experience and temperament to be an excellent Judge.

"The Superior Court Judge hears mostly serious [felony] and family law cases, but also decides significant cases such as the recent Pac-12 case. This job requires patience, diligence and dedication for the goal of justice, no matter who the parties are.

"This job also requires diversity of knowledge as no two cases are ever the same.

"Finally this job requires cooperation and coordination with other counties which exchange judges with our Court here.

"Cleary, and without doubt, Roger Sandberg will provide those qualities as the next Whitman County Superior Court Judge."

-Gary Libey, current Whitman County Superior Court Judge

Dave Frazier endorsement letter:

"I strongly recommend Roger Sandberg for Superior Court Judge. Roger appeared in my courtroom on countless occasions when I was Superior Court Judge in a diverse variety of cases.  He always impressed me, whether he won or lost, not only with his intelligence and legal ability, but also with his professionalism, honesty, and commitment to the highest of ethical standards.

"Roger Sandberg is humble and compassionate.  He understands and takes very seriously the effect that a Judge’s decisions have on the everyday lives of the individual litigants and businesses that come before the court.  He is dedicated to hearing cases fairly and impartially and in making decisions based on the facts and law without any agenda or bias.

"Roger is the only candidate for Superior Court that has extensive experience in all the types of cases that commonly come before this court. He also has innovative ideas for streamlining procedures, reducing backlog, and minimizing court delay. When elected Judge, he will come to this position full of energy, highly experienced, and importantly, with the right demeanor and temperament for the job."

-David Frazier, Whitman County Superior Court Judge (2001-2017)

Brooke Burns endorsement letter:

"I strongly recommend Roger Sandberg for Superior Court Judge.

"I began practicing law in Oct. 2006, just one year before Roger. I had civil cases against Roger and used Roger as a mediator in civil cases. Roger was, and continues to be, very knowledgeable in civil law and is an excellent mediator. He is reasonable, fair and has the demeanor to handle the toughest of cases. While in private practice, I also reached out to Roger when I had difficult questions or issues arising in criminal cases, knowing he did a lot more criminal law than I did.

"I became a Superior Court Judge in Jan. 2021, in Asotin, Garfield, and Columbia Counties. Roger appears in my courtroom frequently. While he practices mostly in Whitman County, he agreed to take some conflict cases in Asotin County, as well as cases where local attorneys were not qualified, e.g. Class A felonies. Roger is a very highly qualified and skilled criminal attorney. Roger is the consummate professional. He is honest, with the highest of ethical standards.

"Roger has acted as a Court Commissioner in Whitman County and at one point, I had asked him if he was willing to act as a Court Commissioner in Asotin County. Roger understands and takes very seriously the effect that a Judge’s decisions have on the everyday lives of litigants.  Roger approaches cases rationally, with an earnest desire to come to a sound legal resolution based on the facts and law without any agenda or bias.

"Roger is the only candidate for Superior Court that has extensive experience in all the types of cases that commonly come before the court."

-Brooke Burns, Judge for Asotin, Garfield and Columbia counties, 2021-present

Denis Tracy endorsement letter:

"Roger Sandberg is on the ballot this year for Whitman County Superior Court Judge. I urge your readers to join in voting for Sandberg for judge.

"As the county’s prosecuting attorney, I have worked with many judges, here and in other parts of the state; and I am convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that Mr. Sandberg deserves your vote.

"Roger Sandberg has the knowledge, the broad experience, the common sense, and the plain good judgment that our next judge needs to have. Please vote Sandberg for judge."

-Denis Tracy, current Whitman County Prosecuting Attorney

Tim Esser Letter of Endorsement:

"Eighteen years ago I was pleased to bring Roger Sandberg into our law firm.  He has proven to be a very competent trial attorney, having success before juries in both civil and criminal matters.  Roger and his wife, Heather, are raising three great kids.

"The reason all current and retired judges support Roger for Whitman County Superior Judge is twofold.  First, Roger has the patience, integrity and judicial demeanor that is essential.  Second, his opponent’s legal experience is very limited, she has exclusively been a divorce lawyer.  She has never had a jury trial.  She has never handled a criminal felony which is half of the court’s case load.  I urge you to vote for the only candidate who has the experience and character necessary for the job, Roger Sandberg."

-Tim Esser, long-time Whitman County attorney

Rob Rembert endorsement letter:

"In selecting a Whitman County Superior Court Judge in the upcoming election, the community will shape Whitman County’s judicial system for years to come.  Having litigated cases in the area for nearly 28 years, I join most of the local legal community and elected officials in endorsing Roger Sandberg for Whitman County Superior Court Judge.

"Roger Sandberg has the work ethic, legal ability, and temperament to allow him to be an outstanding judge.  Given Roger’s qualifications, it is no coincidence that he is endorsed by a vast majority of the local legal community who know and can best evaluate each of the candidates, including sitting and retired Whitman and Asotin County Superior Court Judges, the Whitman County Prosecutor and the Whitman County Sheriff.

"Whoever you support in the upcoming election, please vote.  I encourage you, however, to vote for Roger Sandberg for Whitman County Superior Court Judge."

-Rob Rembert, longtime Pullman attorney

Dan LeBeau endorsement letter:

"This November I will be voting for Roger Sandberg for Whitman County Superior Court Judge. As a Deputy Prosecutor, I have had Roger Sandberg as an opponent for almost two decades.

"Though Mr. Sandberg and I are usually on opposing sides of a case, we joined with Judge Hart to form and work with the local Community Therapeutic Court. The Community Court identifies criminal defendants with mental health or substance use disorder issues who want to turn their lives around.

"There is no monetary reward in this for Mr. Sandberg, nor is it part of his daily duties, yet I have watched him work very hard as part of the Community Court team. He does this because he believes in the opportunity it provides to people with few other options.

"Mr. Sandberg’s work with the Community Court shows his dedication to our community. In addition, Mr. Sandberg has the intellect, judgment and temperament that all judges should have, using common sense and knowledge of the law to make his case. He is humble, kind and always professional. Mr. Sandberg will make an excellent Judge, and I urge you to vote for him."

-Dan LeBeau, Whitman County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney

Steve Martonick endorsement letter:

"I am writing to express my support for Roger Sandberg in his campaign for Superior Court Judge. Having closely observed his professional career, I believe he is the most qualified candidate for this position due to his breadth of experience and judicial temperament.

"Roger brings diverse legal experience, having served as a litigator and a judge for well over a decade. His practice in various areas of the law has prepared him to handle the complex issues that frequently arise in our courts.

"Equally important is Roger’s temperament on and off the bench. He consistently conducts himself with professionalism, maturity, and respect for everyone in the courtroom. This quality fosters an environment where the law is applied justly and where all parties, regardless of their background or case, are heard with respect.

"Whitman County needs judges who are not only skilled in law but who bring the right temperament to the bench. Roger has both. His experience, integrity, and respectful treatment of all those who enter his courtroom make him the ideal candidate for this position. I am voting for Roger Sandberg for Superior Court Judge."

-Steve Martonick, long-time Whitman County attorney

Will Ferguson Letter of Endorsement:

"I have litigated against both Whitman County Superior Court Judge candidates.  I endorse Roger Sandberg, without reservation.

"I began practicing law in Whitman County in 2008.  Over time, I learned who was trustworthy, honest, smart, and capable among lawyers.  Roger remains at the top of that list.  I have served as a judicial officer in Montana and Washington and have litigated civil and criminal cases in both states.  I have seen judges at all points of the spectrum.  One of the highest qualities of a good judge is the willingness to listen.  Every one of us has genuine feelings and opinions and, whether we are right or wrong, what matters the most is that someone gives us a fair opportunity to speak our minds.  The willingness to listen carries a number of other attributes, like patience and intelligence.  If you choose Roger to be your Superior Court Judge, he will listen.

"No matter who his opponent was—even me—I never heard Roger say a malicious or dishonest thing.  Roger would say what he thought was right and when he issued a reply, it was fair and calm.  That’s not weakness on his part; that’s strength.  It’s all too easy to turn to the negative, but that has never been Roger’s way.

"If you are looking for a candidate who exemplifies the positive aspects of leadership and intelligence, I ask you to consider Roger Sandberg for Whitman County Superior Court Judge."

-Will Ferguson, Attorney formerly based in Whitman County

Sherri Aune Letter of Endorsement:

"I am asking you to join me in voting for Roger Sandberg for Whitman County Superior Court Judge.  I have worked under the Superior Court for many years as the Juvenile Court Administrator and have a very good idea of what it takes to be successful as a judge.  It is evident from Roger’s impressive list of endorsements that his peers also overwhelmingly agree he is the better candidate.  That is not a “good old boy” network or some other “set up”; it is people who work in the field and participate in court frequently observing the expertise, the decorum, and the temperament of both candidates and find Roger Sandberg to be superior.

"There have also been thinly veiled criticisms of past judges and general issues of fairness in the courtroom.  I am sure that rhetoric resonates with folks who have not prevailed in a court hearing, but just because you lost doesn’t mean it wasn’t fair.  Additionally, all attorneys lose at some point – a motion, a trial, something.  Are they continually respectful to the court?  Do they accept the loss with dignity and decorum in the courtroom, the hallway?  Roger Sandberg wins or loses with humility and respect for the process and the participants.  This will carry over beautifully in dealing with the general stress and sometimes frustrating parties in Superior Court cases.

"Roger has an amazing reputation which he has absolutely earned.   Let’s make him the next Superior Court Judge for Whitman County."

-Sherri Aune, Whitman County Juvenile Court Administrator
